Sellers of native plants within 200 miles of Duluth, Minnesota

Prepared by Wild Ones Natural Landscapers, Arrowhead Chapter

March 2001

The following lists show sellers of native plants within approximately 200 miles of Duluth that the Wild Ones Arrowhead Chapter is aware of, divided into three groups based on how near they are to Duluth and whether selling native plants is their primary business. Unfortunately, compared to other parts of the state, there are few nurseries in this area that focus on growing and selling native plants. Many of the existing garden centers carry some native plants, however, they are typically mixed in with the non-natives and take some effort to find and verify that the plant/tree/shrub is not a cultivar and has been grown from a seed source within 200 miles.

If you know of a reputable source of native plants that are native to this area that is not included in this list, we encourage you to let us know by contacting Carol at 218/727-9340 or carol_andrews@hotmail.com.

Nurseries > 50 miles from Duluth which sell primarily native plants.

If you are willing to drive the extra distance, the advantage of buying plants from the nurseries which sell primarily native plants is that you can be more assured that the plant is a true native plant. Staff at these nurseries are also typically very knowledgeable about landscaping with native plants and can provide assistance with selecting appropriate plants, describing their growth habits, etc. The downside is that most of these nurseries are located a long drive (> 100 miles) from Duluth. Some of them sell plants by mail-order.
