| Agency Description: | The Wabasha County Department of Social Services, in partnership with the federal government, Minnesota Department of Human Services, and other public, private and community agencies, is directed by law to assist those citizens whose personal or family resources are not adequate to meet their basic human needs. We are committed to helping those citizens attain the maximum degree of self-sufficiency within their individual capabilities. |
| Description of Field Activities | An internship at Wabasha County will offer students the opportunity for
advanced level practice skills in a variety of areas including: assessment
and case planning; group work and group dynamics; working with resistant
or non-voluntary clients; being a change agent in families with very complex
personal and interpersonal problems; working with stakeholders to create
systemic changes in the other county agencies, and; program development/implementation. In addition, students will be challenged to examine their own social work practice with an eye to continual improvement in the areas of: social work values and ethics; professional competency and development; cultural competency, and; critical thinking skills. Problem solving, the ability to practice autonomously, and the desire to seek out and accept feedback are critical skills that will be developed in this internship. |
