| Agency Description: |
The mission of Fond du Lac Behavioral Health is to improve the health
and well being of Indian people residing in our service area. We are a comprehensive
health and human services delivery system. Our primary departments include:
Social Services; Behavioral Health: Public
Health Nursing; Medical; Dental; Optometry: Prevention/Intervention and
Administration. Within these departments exist over nearly 100 programs.
Placements are available in Cloquet or in Duluth @ the Center for American
Indian Resources. Preference is given to American Indian students. |

Field I Tasks/Responsibilities/Opportunities
Complete orientation to a Tribal Health Care System
Opportunity to explore a multitude of programs and how they interface internally
and within the community
Interviewing skill development
Case management
Group co-facilitation
Interviewing division staff
Arrange, conduct client staffings
Developing community resource directory
Independent research projects
Utilization of problem solving method at the mciro, macro and mezzo levels
Inclusion on agency/community boards, task forces, etc.
Utilize systems theory as it applies at micro level, community level, County
level and State level
Increase knowledge of how cultural diversity impacts social work
Increase knowledge of clinical social work practice
Court attendance to observe how ICWA woks within the legal system
Program evaluation
Participate in clinical consultations
Attend department meetings/attend trainings as available
Increase knowledge of internal quality improvement process
Field II Tasks/Responsibilities/Opportunities
(Because of the need to utilize advance skills at this level, a block placement
is highly recommended so as student can be lead person on a case)
Advance practice working within a comprehensive Tribal Health Care System
Utilize advanced skills in areas of case management, direct client care
and community involvement
Identify and conduct a needs assessment related to a community mental health/chemical
health issue
Program development
Create and conduct a support/therapeutic/psychoeducational group
Identify/research/respond to a policy issue which impacts Indian people
Increase understanding of clinical social work practice utilizing the DSM-IV
