MissionIn Fall 2013, SSP will move to the new Learning Commons located on the second floor of the UMD library. Though our location will change, our mission stays the same: to prepare and support all UMD students to be academically successful. SSP's purpose is to prepare students to participate in, and learn from, inclusive, collaborative learning activities such as peer tutoring, supplemental instruction, group projects, and communities of practice. Through participation in SSP courses and practica, students will learn how to support one another in structured networks to develop mastery and deeper understanding of college material. The emphasis of SSP is on learning how to learn in an information-rich, collaborative, highly networked world. SSP ClassesSSP's lower division courses are designed to support students as they explore new models of learning both academically and personally. SSP's upper division courses offer students opportunities to learn and practice communication, leadership, and teaching skills in contexts which enrich their academic interest in a given discipline. SSP ServicesThe Supportive Services Program provides critical learning environments and experiences for many students via the UMD Tutoring Center, Supplemental Instruction, and the Foundations Program.
