Honors Policy

The Swenson College of Science and Engineering has an Honors Policy that no more than 15% of the graduating class can graduate with honors. In SCSE there are three levels of honors within this limitation:

Summa

 3% 3.924

Magna

5% 3.843

Cum Laude

 7% 3.719

In addition, those receiving honors must have a coefficient of completion of at least 90%. Grade point average and coefficient of completion are calculated on UMD coursework, calculated separately, and on total undergraduate work to include undergraduate work from other institutions. In order to be eligible for honors, at least 45 credits must be earned at UMD.
