Graduate International Students
Graduate students must attend two mandatory orientation session for all new international students on Monday, January 11th and Tuesday, January 12th. Times and locations to be announced.
Spring Semester Classes begin Wednesday, January 13th, 2016.
Graduate students should contact their specific department for more information and any additional requirements.
If you would like to be picked up from the Duluth airport or where the bus or shuttle drops you off in Duluth, please email ISS with your arrival information. *Please let ISS know at least 2 weeks in advance of your arrival* Please note: ISS arranged pick-up hours are between 8:00am-11:00pm.
All new students on an F-1 or J-1 visa are required to attend Document Check after their arrival in the U.S. Students will not be allowed to register for classes until they complete Document Check. Document Check is a procedure that verifies a student’s immigration status to ensure that the student is eligible to start an academic program at the University of Minnesota Duluth for the upcoming academic semester. Your registration holds, which prevent you from registering for classes, will be discussed with you during Document Check.
If you are unable to bring your documents before orienation, please bring your documents to orientation and we can make copies at that time.
Due to limited space, UMD is unable to offer on-campus housing for graduate students. ISS can sometimes help students with their search for off-campus housing. Please contact us for more information.
Temporary community housing is sometimes offered by families interested in meeting international students. Please let us know two weeks in advance if you would like to request temporary community housing. Email ISS.
