Housing

Students must indicate on their UMD Exchange Student Application if they will stay on campus or off campus housing.

OFF-CAMPUS
Applicants selecting off campus will need to find housing on their own and notify IEO, prior to arrival into Duluth, of their local address.

ON-CAMPUS
Please note that official housing application forms are sent directly to partner institution's international offices. Only original applications are accepted.

For applicants selecting on campus housing, housing applications need to be completed and submitted directly to to IEO with a USD $200 check, made payable to UMD.

Stadium Apartments have been the preferred apartments on-campus for international students as it is the only apartment complex on campus available for students to check into during arrival week,  the only apartment building that stays open during winter break (for year-long students), and the only housing complex that offers the opportunity for an individual room.

Be aware of the check-out time frame for on-campus housing. For fall semester 2009 all residents must be checked out of campus housing by December 22, 2009 if not returning for spring semester. Students completing their studies spring semester 2010, checkout must be completed by May 14, 2010.

AIRPORT: Duluth International Airport is serviced by Northwest Airlines. The airport is located only a few miles from the UMD campus. If you would like to be met at the airport, it is necessary that you notify IEO of your arrival time well in advance, so we can make arrangements to meet your flight.

BUS: If you are arriving at the Minneapolis airport and want to take a bus to Duluth, there are currently 3 options:

Health Care

In the United States, the government does not pay for health care. You are required to purchase health insurance. Health care in the United States is complicated and very expensive – one illness can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and financially devastate you and your family. Therefore, for your protection, UMD mandates that all international students purchase the Student Health Benefit Plan. For more information about the plan, please visit: http://www.bhs.umn.edu/insurance/duluth/international.htm

To ensure you have met all immunization requirements please read the letter from UMD Health Services and the complete the Immunization and Health History forms.

A Letter from UMD Health Services [DOC]
