Resources for Current Students

Disability Resources provides information, accommodations, and services to students with disabilities. Disability Resources records are confidential and kept separate from other University records.

Getting accommodations

Currently registered UMD students: Appointments with a disability specialist can be made in person in KSC 258 or by calling Mary Kaye at 218-726-6130. You will be asked to fill out a Request for Accommodation form and provide documentation of your disability.

Technology for Reading and Writing

Technology to assist students with reading and writing tasks is located in Library Rooms 122, 124, and 126. Specific hardware and software programs are listed on the door of each room. Some programs are available on USB devices for checkout from the Library.

Temporary Health Conditions

Courtesy services may be available for students with temporary health conditions such as broken bones, recovery from surgery, or a complicated pregnancy.

Student Organization

The student organization Access For All (AFA) is a group of students with and without disabilities who promote disability awareness and access on the UMD campus.

 

Scholarships

Students admitted or enrolled at UMD may apply for the Harry Oden (for sophomores through seniors) and Marcia Bevard-Kulick (for newly admitted through seniors) scholarships.

The application period begins in February. Study Abroad scholarships are also available for students with disabilities at University of Minnesota campuses. Awards are made at the Recognition Reception at the end of Spring Semester.

Tutoring Center

The Tutoring Center offers free, walk-in tutoring to all UMD students. Appointments are not necessary and students do not need to sign in.

Supportive Services Program

The Supportive Services Program offers classes devoted to easing transition to Unverisity academics.

Health Services

UMD's Health Services provides personal counseling as well as medical care.

Career Services

Career Services provides help deciding on a major, exploring careers, writing resumes, and other important aspects of planning your career.
